Princes Trust
The Prince's Trust plays a significant role in the QPR community and relies on support from QPR FC to help unemployed 16-25 year-olds gain nationally recognised qualifications, develop their team working skills and improve their affiliation with their local communities.
Through QPR in the Community, the club supports these young people by offering ground tours, work placements, and motivational talks from staff and players on health and fitness.
Since the partnership began, more than 500 young people have benefited from the initiative, with almost 80 per-cent of the participants getting a job or going into further training or education.
Queens Park Rangers Football Club have been rewarded for helping tackle youth unemployment with The Prince's Trust.
The Club's Community Scheme Manager, Andy Evans, received the award from the Prince's Trust Team at the beginning of September 2006, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Prince's Trust Football Initiative.
Evans said:
"Bringing QPR and the game of football to those who wouldn't normally get to experience the excitement of the sport is vitally important to us.”
Rangers, along with 60 other professional football Clubs, have helped almost 11,000 young people back into work or education through The Prince's Trust Football Initiative.
Funded by the Premier League, PFA and Football Foundation, the initiative taps into the importance of teamwork, leadership and dedication required in football.
As part of the scheme, QPR provide behind the scenes tours, motivational talks, signed merchandise and player appearances to attract young people to complete The Prince's Trust Team programme.
Marion Walker, Sport Development Manager at The Trust, said: "QPR is the only Club in London to house our Prince's Trust Teams and they have been absolutely fantastic in their support and it makes a real difference to the young people.
"Being based at the stadium, attending matches, getting a work placement, gaining goal setting advice, receiving signed merchandise or meeting Club staff really helps them to complete the course with flying colours."
