MEND Programme

MENDThe MEND Programme has been developed to enable a significant, measurable and sustained reduction in childhood overweight and obesity levels.

MEND is an innovative community, family based programme for overweight and obese children aged between 7-13 years old and their families.

The multi-disciplinary programme places equal emphasis on Mind, Exercise, Nutrition... Do It!

It combines all the elements known to be vital in treating and preventing overweight or obesity in children, including family involvement, practical education and nutrition. The core MEND Programme comprises 18 two-hour sessions plus 2 measurement sessions over a ten week period. The sessions feature an hour theory including discussion and activities, and an hour of fun exercise.

MEND Aims:

  • To increase the awareness of nutrition and healthy eating among overweight and obese children and their parents and carers.
  • To increase regular participation in football and other physical activity in overweight and obese children.
  • To offer sustainable opportunities for young people to participate in football and other physical activity after the MEND programme.
