Early in the morning, QPR Coaches put young people through their paces in a series of football related drills and matches to awake the body and allow for a hard physical session before the day begins.

Afterwards, the participants are provided a free healthy breakfast –provided by Waitrose - including fruit and cereal to hit the recommended five-a-day targets included in all the Government initiatives.

And so far they have been a resounding success, with Community Manager Andy Evans commenting: “We have been very pleased with the success of the Breakfast Club initiative.

“The numbers of participants has steadily grown, which is encouraging, and the feedback we have had from those who have been a part of it has been really pleasing.”

Evans went on to stress the importance of aiding the cause to halt the growing problem of child obesity: “The problem is growing, but if we can be a part of the solution, and the Breakfast Clubs certainly are, then hopefully we can contribute to dealing with it before it gets even more out of hand.

“A healthy start to the day is very important. It is the first meal of the day and provides you the energy you need to undertake whatever you need to do - be it attending school, playing sport, or going to work – and that is the message we are trying to convey.

“Not only that, but it is of vital importance to eat a proper, balanced diet because if you eat well, you feel well and you will be well. It’s not only a bar of chocolate that will give you energy, a banana or even better an apple will provide you more energy. Its little facts like this that we try and teach through the Clubs.”
